One of my many loves is shopping and finding the latest fashion trends. And, to get the most of fashion finds; I needed to change a few things.
CoVid has made its mark on my body (and soul) along with night sweats, female hormones and other fun stuff going through menopause. So, to get back into some pre-CoVid clothes; I was in the hunt for personal training instruction while supporting a black owned business and female entrepreneurship. Like with many things, you Google first, then you check out testimonials, and where they show up in social media. One on One Personal Training made my short list. I met with Sandra to chat about my needs, liked her style, saw her expertise in personal training, and her dedication to supporting her clients becoming healthier and living longer.
Did I mention she looks like this? Now, that’s body health to aspire to.
Have to say, though, for the first three months; I wanted to quit. Not having fun!! There were tears, ‘this isn’t working for me’ wailing, and calculating how many more sessions (I signed up for ‘x’ number of sessions) before I could escape. Sandra listened, encouraged, and pushed hard for me to keep going. Did I tell you she’s also a fellow Jamaican that dishes out ‘tough love’? But then I started to see some changes in the next three to four months. I was building muscle. I had more stamina. I was lifting heavier weights. I recently had my body measurements taken again and was happy to see I loss 5.5” less around my waist and various other body parts’ measured were showing loss of inches as well. Yabba Dabba Do!
While Sandra is the leader, mentor, fitness influencer, and guiding light of One on One Fitness; she is also head coach to a great team. After my initial chat with Sandra, she got me working with Dane.
Now, this got me a little anxious … a male trainer, someone who is 25 years younger than me (what are we gonna to talk about?), makes me do burpees, but now I wouldn’t have any other trainer. He creates a comfortable, safe environment plus he’s one of the most positive people I have encountered. His focus is making me successful.
Besides, who wouldn’t want to keep going when you get encouragement like this.
‘You go girl! Congrats Onanta! I know the journey might be hard and seem slow at times but think of it like a movie: you don’t just fast forward through the movie to get to the ending, otherwise you will have missed all the important stuff in the middle and have no idea what is going on at the end. But if you force yourself to sit through the movie, even the boring slow parts in the middle, the ending will feel so much more rewarding and you will gain so much more by being patient through the middle parts. Your fitness journey is your movie and you’re doing an amazing job! I’m grateful to have you as a client and a friend! Keep up the good work!

So, I’m not quite at the point of ‘Brittany Runs A Marathon’ but maybe a 5K!
