What is the use of having a style icon anyway?

There are some good reasons to find a style icon to help you along your style journey not the destination.

  1. Inspiration – they can inspire you to improve your style.  They can inspire you to up your style game.  They can inspire you to try different outfits one, putting items you already own together in new ways.
  2. Details – someone who is a style icon will have gotten their details right.
  3. Grooming – their grooming is always good.  Very often our own grooming is kind of ignored, or we just do as little as we feel is necessary – yet when you look at your style icon, the grooming will always be to a higher standard – that’s partly how they have become a style icon.

Finding a Style Icon
Is there someone out there whose style you admire?  Here are but a few I adore!

Beyonce

When she’s not stealing the show at the Met Gala or announcing a pregnancy while performing at the Grammys, Beyonce finds more subtle ways to lead fashion revolutions. Beyonce rocks her curves while embracing both modern trends and her southern and African-American heritage. All hail Queen Bey!

Diane Keaton

Who could forget Keaton dressed in a vest, tie, and bowler hat in her famous role as Annie Hall? The actress’s borrowed-from-the-boys style revolutionized the way women dressed in the late ’70s and early ’80s.

When Keaton does go the more feminine route, it’s never in an expected way: full, below-the-knee skirts with wide belts, high-collared shirts, and statement jewellry like outsized brooches or crucifixes. What’s almost always present? A pair of fitted gloves.

Prince

We can’t talk about influential fashion icons and not talk about the one, the only Prince. The singer was known for his incredibly bold (and fun!) on-stage fashion choices, and he consistently pushed gender norms throughout the ’80s and till his passing. A true legend, you could always expect something eclectic and exciting from Prince….and purple!

My favourite…Moira Rose (Schitt’s Creek)

Spoiled, eccentric, exceedingly dramatic that describes Moira perfectly.

Moira, a former soap opera star, stalks through her new blue-collar home in six-inch heels, sculptural, black-and-white couture, and an array of outrageous wigs — and that’s just what she considers a casual look. She wears a shimmering black cocktail dress, dark patterned leggings, and a tiered necklace to a relaxed family barbeque. She sleeps in silk pajamas, accessorized with a vest and a brooch. Her favorite season? Awards.
