The number of Canadians who struggle to put good food on the table is increasing as a result of layoffs and the economic downturn caused by the pandemic.

In Canada, food insecurity has affected one in seven people which makes food insecurity one of the nation’s leading health and nutrition issues. As someone that equates food to giving love; this is a really sobering stat.

A recent annual food price report says the average Canadian family will pay up to an extra $695 for food in 2021 as the pandemic, wildfires and changing consumer habits drive up grocery bills to the highest increase ever.

As we enter the most food focused holiday, it is likely to inspire a deluge of donations and volunteerism — but we need to keep up the action even after the holiday season passes.

No matter what time of year it is, it’s always a good time to help out your local food bank.

Whether you’re donating food, clothing, or your time – these organizations are thankful to have your contributions. Many of these organizations have ‘wish lists’, or specific items they need, so be sure to check out their websites beforehand if you’re picking up some things for those in need.
